When should I take my child to the dentist for their first checkup?

We recommend bringing your child to the dentist for the first time when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday.

How often does my child need to see the pediatric dentist?

Our pediatric dentist will schedule regular appointments with you and your child after their first visit. In most cases, your child will visit us twice a year, but our pediatric dentist may schedule more frequent visits if needed.

Are baby teeth that important to my child?

Yes! Your child’s baby teeth play a vital role in their oral growth and development, helping facilitate speech production and development, aiding in jaw development, contributing to nutrition and good chewing habits, and helping with the spacing and alignment of the permanent teeth. Healthy baby teeth also boost your child’s self-confidence when they smile.

Are thumb sucking and pacifier habits harmful for a child’s teeth?

Yes. If thumb and finger sucking habits continue, they can cause significant damage to your child’s teeth and bite, pushing their teeth out of alignment and preventing them from being able to bite, chew or speak properly.

How do I make my child’s diet safe for their teeth?

We recommend limiting your child’s intake of sugary foods and encouraging them to drink more water and eat fresh fruit and vegetables. You can also provide them with foods high in calcium and phosphorus, in addition to helping them brush after each meal and floss daily to keep their teeth clean.

When should my child have their first visit with an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists® recommends that your child have an initial consultation by age 7. By this age, children are developed enough that any potential problems will be easy to diagnose and our orthodontist can determine if orthodontic treatment is needed and when it should begin.

How long does treatment last?

The length of treatment depends on the complexity of the problem. Simple orthodontic treatments may be completed in just a few months, while a complete bite correction can take several years. Orthodontic treatment times typically range between 18 to 36 months. Our orthodontist will provide an estimate of your treatment time at your initial consultation.

I don’t want old-fashioned braces. What are my options?

Thanks to advances in technology, there are many alternative options to traditional braces. The options our orthodontist may recommend include ceramic braces (also known as “clear” or tooth-colored braces), lingual braces and clear aligners. We will discuss your options with you during your initial consultation.

How often will I have to see the orthodontist while I’m in treatment?

Depending on your type of treatment and your individual needs, you can expect to meet with our orthodontist every four to eight weeks. We will discuss your regular schedule of visits with you when you begin treatment.

Can I get braces if my teeth have crowns or root canals?

Yes. Materials are available that can adhere orthodontic brackets to crowns just as they would to natural teeth. Our orthodontist will evaluate your teeth to determine your specific circumstances and whether or not orthodontic treatment is right for you.

Amazing staff. Absolutely great with kids. My 6yr son hates going to the dentist. However after his 1st visit, he was calm and comfortable. He wasn't scared anymore. He is now willing to go again.
